Supervisor Campbell,
My wife and I are in our late 70's, and hence potential candidates for an assisted living facility. But we would never consider The Springs at Bethsaida.
We still like to take walks, go shopping, attend movies, have an occasional restaurant meal, and tend to finances. There is no infrastructure for any of these amenities at the Springs proposed location.
Given the economic conditions of commercial real estate in our county, there must be much better locations for an assisted living facility. I know of two examples; there must be others.
The Red Cross is avid for my wife's 0- blood, and as I spent too much time peddling sonars to the Brits and French during mad cow, they won't touch mine. So I have time to wander around Brookhollow while she is donating. There is a large two-story building at 1560 Brookhollow, which appears to be vacant. Brookhollow is beautifully landscaped, with walkways, grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, and ponds with fish and baby ducks. Bedding and TVs can be purchased across the parking lot. There is a snack shop and a church (although that may be a negative, as is isn't a Catholic church). A short (4 mile) tram ride takes one to The District, with shopping, restaurants and movies.
There is a large two-story building in Sky Park near the corner of MacArthur and Main. (For taking walks, the landscaping in Sky Park isn't as nice as Brookhollow, but sure beats the non-existent opportunities at the Springs proposed location.) Also, two stockbrokers, a bank, and snack shops are a short walk away. Movies are a short tram ride away, and South Coast Plaza is a bit longer tram ride.
Rather than degrade our North Tustin neighborhood with a facility offering little more access to amenities than a "Club Fed", put an assisted living facility where the infrastructure is already in place. That would be much less costly for all the County, and particularly North Tustin, homeowners, and much more pleasant for the seniors.
